[Fri 22/02/2018 19:00-22:00] CTF Challenge!

EOF is participating in it’s first infosec CTF event! If you’d like to join us please get in touch here or at info@eof.org.uk

What’s a CTF? CTF stands for Capture The Flag and in the Information Security field these are challenges where you compete to solve as many puzzles as possible.

The puzzles are usually pretty varied and can involve:

  • Maths
  • Discovering and exploiting software vulnerabilities
  • Reverse engineering
  • Programming

This is an entry-level event since we’re all new to this. So, if you’re a noob, feel free to join us. We’re noobs as well!

The specific event we’re participating in is here: https://mitrestemctf.org/

Please use the link above to register.

Prep Session:

Where: EOF Hackspace
Date: Wednesday, 20th of February
Time: any time between 6:30pm to 10pm

This is when we’ll make sure everyone is added to the team and then we’ll set up our machines (if needed) and run through some sample problems.

If somehow we make it through all the sample problems I think this site might have a couple of additional challenges:

Main Event

I just checked the results and we ranked 70th out of 399 in our category.

We found 11 flags for a total of 850 points.

The highest scoring team got 3900 points, though it had 22 members… so I think we did rather well all things considered.

Correction: The winning team captured 22 flags. The member count wasn’t displayed. I still think we did OK though!

Congrats! I hope I get a chance to participate in the next one
